“You have been told also that life is darkness,
and in your weariness
you echo what was said by the weary.
And I say that life is indeed darkness
save when there is urge,
And all urge is blind
save when there is knowledge,
And all knowledge is vain
save when there is work,
And all work is empty
save when there is love;
And when you work with love
you bind yourself to yourself,
and to one another,
and to God.”

MY JOURNEY
Throughout my adult life, one of my most primary desires has always been for wellness of mind, body, and spirit. That said, much of my adult life has not been an embodiment of these things. I struggled with intense drug addiction from my early teens through my twenties. Even after finding recovery and stopping the drugs, a modern lifestyle full of fast-paced technology, environmental toxins, and processed foods had me disillusioned at the prospect of feeling sane, healthy, and connected.
My wellness journey was catalyzed by suffering; a proverbial dark night of the soul. Although many people find their personal pursuit of wellness without ever touching a rock bottom, for so many of us it is the manifestation of physical or mental illness, addictions, or an overwhelming dissatisfaction with life that drives us to decide: “Something has got to change”. Most of us have known a change was needed, and even deeply desired it, but very little changes until we become willing to push outside of our comfort zone in order to evoke that change.
When I was introduced to Kambo, I was in the midst of a deep depression. Despite being sober, eating healthy, having good friends and family around me, and a regular yoga practice; I generally felt foggy, unmotivated, and discontented. I could logically acknowledge all the blessings in my life, but really struggled with tapping into my gratitude and embracing them. After sitting with Kambo for 3 consecutive days, I felt reanimated. I felt clearer of mind, more vitality within my body, and more grounded in Spirit. I again felt hopeful and excited about life and felt my connection to myself and the world around me renewed.
I originally went to practitioner training just to learn to serve myself and my family, and to scratch an itchy fascination that had arisen in me since my first experience with Kambo. I came to fall in love with not only what it was doing in my life, but with the possibilities of what it could do in the lives of others. That’s one of the most beautiful things about Kambo, it meets people where they are at, with what they individually need. It isn’t so much that Kambo is doing something to your body, as that it is encouraging your body to do what it naturally does, so beautifully, in its optimal state. To move towards equilibrium, to heal itself.
