Sananga

Sananga is a liquid, administered as eye drops, crafted from the Tabernaemontana Undulate shrub, a plant indigenous to the Amazon Basin. Traditionally used by a number of Amazonian tribes as a hunting medicine in order to improve their visual acuity and perception. It is renowned for its positive benefits to eye health and vision. There haven’t been many western scientific endeavors into understanding the exact mechanisms yet, so the evidence is largely anecdotal, although quite abundant. Demonstrated in its adoption by western seekers of health and, most importantly, its continued use for many generations by the indigenous peoples who originally formulated it. There’s also been scientific verification of an array of healing properties to be found amidst a number of different varieties of the Tabernaemontana family of shrub. It is also related to Tabernanthe Iboga, the profound entheogenic plant of West Africa, and although Sananga contains some iboga alkaloids, it is not pyschoactive.

The experience of Sananga, like Kambo, is both challenging and rewarding. For generally 2-10 minutes following administration of the drops into ones eyes, one experiences a burning sensation in the eyes that has been described as like having sand and Tabasco sauce in them. This is unpleasant, no two ways about it, althought most people report feeling the initial tension and angst of discomfort shift into a calm and settled feeling a couple minutes in. Many people experience great anti-anxiety benefits, as you are indubitable pulled from thought-consciousness to body-consciousness swiftly. Sananga is offered before Kambo, in order to ground ourselves into the body and settle into the moment, and ease any anxiety one might have regarding the Kambo experience itself.
